When is Kingdom Hearts 4 coming out? Next year, if you believe some particularly optimistic copy published by a variety of Australian retailers.
In their product listings for the newly announced Kingdom Hearts Collection 1-3, both JB Hi-Fi and EB Games included text alluding to a 2027 launch for the latest game.
The text was identical across websites and has since been edited, suggesting this information came directly from publisher Square Enix itself.
It said:
“Play through the full Kingdom Hearts series in one comprehensive package before the release of Kingdom Hearts 4 in 2027. Enjoy the complete saga at a newly accessible price point, making it the ideal entry for newcomers and a definitive edition for returning fans.”
It’s worth mentioning that we haven’t been able to find this paragraph at any retailers outside of Australia, so it may simply have been written by a local department in error.
And looking at the latest trailer for the Disney mash-up, which is a bit janky and unrefined, it doesn’t feel like this game is coming out soon.
But I suppose it would make sense for the publisher to get this collection out in advance of the new game, and I guess this could all mark the start of Square Enix starting to promote the series again.
I’m not optimistic about Kingdom Hearts 4 coming out next year personally, but I hope I’m wrong. I could use a hit of this notoriously kitsch series right now, and I’m even considering revisiting the originals on my PS5 with this new collection.
