Millie Bobby Brown Doesn’t Need Her Husband to Carry Bags

Millie Bobby Brown wants to be pushing her own stroller, actually. On Thursday’s episode of Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast, the actress addressed ongoing speculation that her husband, Jake Bongiovi, wasn’t helping her out enough with their daughter, whom they adopted last year. “When did women become incapable of holding their own bags, car seats, and stuff?” Brown asked Kelce. “This stems from me holding all of my suitcases and bags and my kid, and people are like, ‘Your husband doesn’t hold a single thing.’”

Brown is referring to a series of photos and videos over the last six months that sparked criticism online from people who felt Brown was doing the brunt of the physical labor in the relationship, particularly when it came to child care. Last month, the 22-year-old was pictured pushing a large stroller down the street, while Bongiovi walked empty-handed beside her. Earlier this year, Brown was photographed carrying two backpacks and the baby in a large carrier, while Bongiovi was lingering nearby with one bag strapped to his back, again with two free hands. Based on the images, social-media users worried that Brown was “carrying the entire family 😭” (literally).

But that’s not at all how Brown sees things. On the podcast, she noted her husband is “the most polite, sweetest man [who] will do anything for me,” and, crucially, “also knows I’m capable.” “We’re all about empowering girls, like, ‘You got it, you don’t need a man!’” she told Kelce. “But then when I’m like, ‘Okay, I can carry my own things,’ people are like, ‘Where’s your husband?!’” So the next time you see Brown pushing her huge stroller around Soho with her husband somewhere nearby, just bear in mind she chose to do that. Okay?
