Bhooth Bangla is running in its final legs at the box office. The Akshay Kumar starrer horror-comedy added Rs. 4.75 crore to the tally in Week 6, with Rs. 80 lakh coming on the 6th Thursday. The movie registered a 20 per cent drop from the previous week, which is a good hold.
One of the major reasons why the movie is still gaining traction in cinemas is the underperformance of the other movies that were released in the last couple of weeks, which gave it a prolonged theatrical run. The running cume of Bhooth Bangla currently stands at Rs. 164.75 crore nett at the Indian box office.
Based on the current trends, the movie is expected to surpass the lifetime cume of Housefull 5 (Rs. 168 crore) and close its entire run somewhere under the Rs. 170 crore mark. Akshay Kumar has been going through a rough patch at the box office post-2020. With back-to-back successful ventures last year and, finally, a Clean Hit with Bhooth Bangla, the actor is back in his element.
The industry tends to have a good time when Akshay Kumar delivers hits. He makes sure to do two or three HITs or successful films a year; it is equally important, as that keeps the box office ticking. This is something where Akshay Kumar stands out, as others in the industry, except Ajay Devgn, have significantly lower output, with some of them taking two or three years for one film instead. The box office in India is star-driven; it cannot be in good shape if leading stars are not bringing films regularly.
