Xbox reportedly testing “build your own” Game Pass subscription

Xbox is reportedly planning a major overhaul to Game Pass that could let players build their own subscription.

According to a report from Jez Corden, Microsoft is exploring a “pick your own plan” model for Xbox Game Pass as part of its long-term strategy.

The reported shift comes shortly after recent Game Pass pricing changes, which saw select tiers drop in price as Microsoft continues adjusting the service’s structure.

Xbox Game Pass could shift to customizable subscription model

The reported plan would make Game Pass more flexible, allowing users to choose specific features and content packages instead of sticking to fixed tiers.

Players could potentially remove features they don’t use to lower the monthly cost. That includes options like excluding Xbox Cloud Gaming or swapping out perks such as Fortnite Crew for other add-ons.

Back-end API leaks have reportedly revealed codenames “Duet” and “Triton,” which are believed to be tied to future Game Pass packages. These suggest Microsoft is testing how modular subscriptions could work.

The system could also expand beyond current Game Pass perks. The report claims users may be able to add subscriptions like World of Warcraft, Minecraft Realms, or other services like Netflix as optional extras. There is also mention of the long-rumored Game Pass family plan being part of the wider shift.
