In an industry where countless actresses wait years for a meaningful role, one young performer has surged ahead with remarkable pace, completing seven films in just twelve months. Once overlooked and underestimated, she is now one of the most sought-after talents, effortlessly slipping into diverse characters and capturing audiences with every release. Curious to know who she is?

She is none other than Anupama Parameswaran, the actress adored by Tamil audiences for her role in Premam. Anupama, who hails from Thrissur in Kerala, made her cinematic debut with Premam in 2015, when she was just 19-years-old.

Although her role as ‘Mary’ in that film was relatively small, it became hugely popular with fans, opening the door to new opportunities. Tamil cinema soon embraced her, and she starred opposite Dhanush in Kodi. However, despite beginning her journey in Malayalam cinema and entering Tamil films, it was the Telugu industry that fully claimed Anupama.

Anupama Parameswaran acted in one Malayalam film each in 2017 and 2021, but most of her work came from Telugu cinema. Even then, Anupama did not see major breakthroughs for some time. She typically appeared in three or four films a year, often in secondary heroine roles. Yet after nearly a decade in the industry, Anupama has finally experienced a remarkable upswing.

This year alone, she has acted in seven films. Among them, her Tamil films Dragon and Bison Kaalamaadan have been well received. She has also appeared in the Malayalam release, The Pet Detective, and in Telugu films such as JSK: Janaki V v/s State of Kerala, Kishkindapuri and Paradha.

Her seventh release of the year, Lockdown, a survival thriller set against the backdrop of the Covid-19 lockdown, is scheduled to release on December 5, and the preview has generated strong interest. At a time when even leading heroines in South Indian cinema struggle to secure two or three films a year, Anupama has achieved an extraordinary feat — seven films in a single year.
