The second major of the tennis season is upon us with the 2026 French Open from Paris, with the world’s best battling for the title of king and queen of clay.
The defending men’s singles champion, Carlos Alcaraz, will not be competing due to a lingering wrist injury. Alcaraz, the world’s No. 2 player, also withdrew from Wimbledon as he recovers.
Coco Gauff is the defending women’s champion and will have some stiff competition, particularly from Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s top-ranked player, who she beat in last year’s final, along with four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek.
Jannik Sinner has blitzed through this season, as the No. 1-ranked player has already won ATP Masters 1000 tournaments at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid, and Rome and is on a 29-match winning streak. A victory at Roland Garros would give Sinner the career Grand Slam.

Prize money
The prize money for the main draw is up 10.1% compared to last year’s purse. The winner of the singles titles will each receive $3.2 million for their successful run through the tournament. The runners-up will take home $1.6 million.
