What’s wrong with this picture of a championship-winning women’s tennis team?

So much for keeping men out of women’s sports. A championship women’s tennis team went to the White House a couple of days ago to celebrate their championship win from last year. They took a picture with Donald Trump, who technically has the title of president of the United States. It’s technically an honor for a sports team to go to the White House.

Apparently the University of Georgia women’s tennis team has a lot of men in it, judging from the picture that was taken at the White House. Last year, the University of Georgia women’s tennis team beat Texas A & M team and win the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship. From an article by Rachel Smit in The Red & Black, I gather that it was a hard-fought and well-deserved win.

No. 1 Georgia swept No. 2 Texas A&M 4-0 in the NCAA National Championship in Waco, Texas, on Sunday [May 18, 2025]. This win was Georgia’s 19th sweep of the season;the Bulldogs defeated the reigning NCAA champions in a rematch of both the SEC Championship and last year’s national championship.

Georgia’s record in NCAA title matches improves to 3-4, winning in 1994 and, most recently, in 2000.

No. 68 Anastasiia Lopata and Guillermina Grant struck first in the doubles matches for the Bulldogs, winning 6-2 on court two against Lexington Reed and Daria Smetannikov. Hayden Mulberry and Aysegul Mert clinched the doubles point with their 7-5 win against Nicole Khirin and Lucciana Perez on court three.

Maybe Anastasiia Lopata and Guillermina Grant are in the White House picture taken by White House press aide Margo Martin and posted on Twitter a couple of days ago. I do recognize Lopata in the backmost row. But who are those jerks in the front row? According to the Guardian,

The men standing alongside Trump were, from left to right: Georgia deputy athletic director Ford Williams, athletic director Josh Brooks, head coach Drake Bernstein, associate head coach Jarryd Chaplin and assistant coach Will Reynolds.

So, to be fair, even though they’re not actually players on the team they do deserve some credit for the team’s win. Still, shouldn’t they maybe have stood in the back row instead of the front row?

Irene Wright notes for USA Today that

In a video shared by [Margo Martin,] the special assistant to the president, Trump approaches the group and shakes the hands of the five men standing in front of the players, but not the team members.

Surely Melania doesn’t care if her husband shakes some women athletes’ hands in public. But on the other hand, maybe the women didn’t want to shake Trump’s hand because of his mysterious hand illness that remains a mystery to this day. Or was that on his left hand? Well, I forgot, the same way he forgot whether his bone spurs were on his left or right foot.

I’m reminded of some pictures from Saudi Arabia. We might have them in our Image Library. I might update with those pictures later.
