Vadde Naveen makes a comeback after a decade with the cop drama Transfer Trimurthulu. The film, directed by Kamal Teja, has Rashi Singh as the female lead and has been promoted aggressively. Read our review to find out if the film is worth watching in theaters.

Plot

Trimurthulu (Vadde Naveen), an honest police constable who has been transferred 55 times in 10 years, follows the values of his late father Srinivasulu, a sincere police officer. During a posting in Araku, he discovers a 20-year-old FIR related to the assault of a tribal girl named Priyamma, a case that was originally filed by his father. As he digs deeper, he uncovers shocking links to Chief Minister Kamala (Shilpa Tulaskar) and powerful political forces. What happened to Priyamma, and can Trimurthulu finally deliver justice? The answers form the crux of the story.

Performances

Vadde Naveen makes a comeback after a long gap and suits his role well. His looks are intact, and the kind of role he has chosen is apt for a comeback. But the story and narration do not deliver, making his sincere performance go to waste. Rashi Singh is also just about okay in her role and does not have much to do. Shilpa Tulaskar, as the CM, is cast well in the film, and the rest of the cast, featuring Raghu Babu, does not bring much to the table.

Technical Aspects

Kalyan Nayak has composed the music, and his songs are disappointing, as none of them make any impact. His BGM is also loud and clicks only in a few action scenes. The plot is nothing new, apart from a few scenes related to the core conflict. The production values are okay, and so is the production design. The lyrics, dialogues, and presentation are all old-school and do not excite much.

Positives

1. Core Plot
2. Vadde Naveen

Negatives:

1. Outdated Screenplay
2. Needless Commercial Elements
3. Illogical Scenes
4. Convenient Writing
5. Lack of Emotional Depth

Analysis

Vadde Naveen plays a cop who fights for justice for a victim who has suffered immensely. Such a storyline, involving a cop going against the system, has been explored in many Telugu films to date. Such films need a crisp narrative and a solid screenplay. But these aspects are completely missing in the film, giving Transfer Trimurthulu a very old and mundane look.

There is no denying the fact that Transfer Trimurthulu appears to be somewhat inspired by Temper. The core idea is old-school and does not create much impact. The court drama episodes towards the end of the film, were handled well, but until then, it was a bit difficult to sit through.

The character arcs in the film are dull and do not add much depth to the proceedings. Vadde Naveen has chosen a social drama that feels outdated, and director Kamal Teja makes things worse with his uneven narration. There are too many repetitive scenes in the film, and the moral policing becomes boring after a point.

The best part of the film is that the hero is not showcased as an all-powerful figure. Instead, he is portrayed as a man under pressure trying to deliver justice, and this aspect has been handled reasonably well. However, the family bonding in the film fails to evoke proper emotions. The relationships are weak, and this creates a dull viewing experience. There were a few logical flaws as well, especially the special song, which feels silly. Right from the start, there is nothing novel that has been showcased. A majority of the scenes are dull and create a sense of déjà vu.

At a time when many popular heroes are attempting comebacks as character artists, Vadde Naveen chooses to return as a lead hero. There is nothing wrong with that, but the subject he has chosen feels outdated and fails to generate any interest whatsoever.

Bottom Line: ‘Outdated’ Trimurthulu

Rating: 2/5
