The handset is also tipped to shave weight, dropping from 188g on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 to roughly 180g. Width may increase slightly, though industry sources describe the change as minimal and unlikely to alter the in-hand feel significantly.
The new hinge is central to Samsung’s effort to reduce the visible fold line across the inner screen. A tighter folding structure and refined panel layering are expected to help minimise the “valley” effect that has long divided opinion on foldable phones.
