Russell Brand was left visibly awkward during an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, as the presenter questioned him closely about his recent religious awakening and his use of the Bible in court.

TV host Piers asked: “Can I go back to asking a question about your Bible?” Brand responded: “Yes, if you want to. Thank you.”

Morgan then said: “Was that the one you took into court?” Brand answered: “Yeah, the very one. Okay.” Piers went on to press Brand on the matter as he added: “What was your thinking of taking it into court? And what you were seeing, looking at some passages, what were the relevant passages for you?” It comes after Russell Brand claimed ‘human beings are broken’ just hours after his court appearance.

Brand replied: “All right. Thank you for asking me. Thank you. That didn’t hurt, did it? A little bit. It was this from Isaiah. You’re right, but I did say, you know, be chilled. Sometimes I lose the chill, man. It’s pretty… It’s this. They don’t like that, do they, in the old gallery? But remember you just said it’s a hired spot. This is from Isaiah.”

He then flicked through the Bible pages as an awkward silence filled the studio, adding: “Excuse me. Man, I’ve not been to the market before. It says here… The verse that I was looking at that day was not this. I can’t actually find the verse that I had that day. But this is good enough. This is from Isaiah 12.”

Fans later mocked the exchange online, particularly Piers Morgan’s facial expressions during the awkward moment. One person wrote on x, formerly Twitter: “Piers’ expression says it all.” Another viewer said: “Cameraman was absolute legend for the split screen.”

He appeared on air on Piers Morgan’s YouTube show on April 24. During his appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, he also addressed his legal situation and the prospect of prison, saying: “I will be with God wherever I am.”

The Get Him to the Greek star, 50, has been accused of three counts of rape, three charges of sexual assault, and one allegation of indecent assault, with six women alleging crimes dating from 1999 to 2009.

Brand has pleaded not guilty and denied all charges. His rape trial has been delayed until October.
