Power stocks have gained up to 53% in the past month as India witnessed peak electricity demand at 256 giga watt (GW) in April 2026, the highest ever recorded in the country. The previous record was in May 2024 at 250 GW. The Centre’s projection for April is at 263 GW and the full-year 2026 peak is expected to be over 270 GW, as per the Central Electricity Authority. Power stocks have been in focus with the early onset of summer, heatwave in northwest and central India, and the super El Nino heading towards India, warning of a prolonged summer and threatening the southwest monsoon showers. Here are the top stocks on the BSE Power index that have gained between 30% to 53% in the past month:
Adani Green | The stock has surged the most in the BSE Power index, gaining 52.9% in the past month. It has risen for four out of the last five trading sessions. Of the eight analysts who have coverage on the stock, seven have a “buy” rating and one has a “sell” rating. April has turned out to be the best month for the stock since March 2023, during which it had surged 82%.
Adani Power | Another Adani Group stock in the list, which has risen 46.7% in the past month. It is trading with gains for the second day on Monday, prior to which it was in the red for two sessions. It has risen for 16 out of the last 18 trading sessions. All eight analysts who have coverage on the stock have “buy” ratings. The last instance of the stock gaining such a quantum was back in April 2022, when it had gained 52%.
Suzlon | Suzlon Energy shares have gained 44.9% in the past month. The stock is trading with gains for the third consecutive session on Tuesday and has been in the green for five out of the last six sessions. Of the 12 analysts who have coverage on the stock, 11 have a “buy” recommendation and one has a “hold” rating. The stock had gained 49% back in December 2021.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) | BHEL shares have risen 41.9% in the past month. It has risen for 14 out of the last 15 trading sessions. A total of 20 analysts have coverage on the stock. Of these nine have “buy” and “sell” ratings each, while two have “hold” ratings. The last instance of the stock gaining such a quantum or more was back in May 2021, when it had surged 47%.
Torrent Power | Torrent Power shares have risen 34% in the past month. Of the 11 analysts who have coverage on the stock, three analysts each have a “buy” and “sell” rating and five have a “hold” rating. The stock is witnessing its best month since January 2016, when it had risen 35%.
Hitachi Energy India Ltd. | The stock has gained 33.2% in the past month. It has risen for seven out of the last eight trading sessions. Of the 17 analysts who have coverage on the stock, 13 have a “buy” rating, three have a “hold” rating and one has a “sell” rating. The stock had gained a similar quantum in February this year as well.
Siemens Ltd. | The stock has risen 30% in the past month. Of the 27 analysts who have coverage on the stock, 13 have a “buy” rating, nine have a “hold” rating and five have a “sell” rating.
