Rene Meulensteen has insisted that Benjamin Sesko is improving at Manchester United after the Slovenia striker’s impact against Brentford at Old Trafford.
Benjamin Sesko has taken his goalscoring figures into double digits in the Premier League during his debut season at Manchester United after last summer’s move.
The 22-year-old Slovenia international has netted 10 times in 29 Premier League matches and Sesko made his presence felt in Man Utd’s 2-1 win over Brentford.
Bruno Fernandes picked up another Premier League assist after the 31-year-old Man Utd captain laid the ball off to Sesko after the Red Devils’ immediate counterattack.

Rene Meulensteen highlights the change in the Man Utd dynamic between Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko slotted his effort across Caoimhin Kelleher and the ball landed in the far corner of the Brentford net at Old Trafford ahead of the half-time whistle.
Man Utd were 2-0 up against Brentford going into the break after the impact of Sesko and Casemiro in the first half of the Premier League clash on Monday.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Rene Meulensteen explained that Bruno Fernandes and Sesko’s chemistry is night and day different at the club now.
“You could see in the beginning of the games [earlier in the season] Bruno was pointing to him all the time, the connection wasn’t there yet,” he said, as per the Premier League’s official website.
“But now it’s getting stronger and stronger.”

Fair play, Brentford made us work – but United were more clinical… what changes does Carrick need to make to score more goals?
Rene Meulensteen on the development of Benjamin Sesko at Man Utd this season
Fernandes’ influence had waned earlier in the 2025-26 campaign after Ruben Amorim had played him deep in the two-man Man Utd midfield pivot.
However, the Portugal midfielder has since been offered more freedom under Michael Carrick after being restored to the No 10 role at Man Utd.
Speaking on Sesko amid his observation around the Fernandes dynamic, Meulensteen added: “As strikers, you feed off service. If you give him service, he is definitely progressing.
“His movement is better. He’s working hard, he can bring other players into play. He’s getting better from game-to-game.”
Sesko, who left German side RB Leipzig last summer, has netted six times in his last 12 Premier League matches under United legend Michael Carrick this season.
