Telugu film Peddi had a very good four-day extended opening weekend in India, collecting Rs. 182 crore approx. The film had a strong opening on Thursday, held well on Friday and finally made good gains over the weekend. Conversely, the overseas performance wasn’t that good, with the film gathering USD 4.50 million / Rs. 43.50 crore approx over the weekend, giving it a worldwide opening weekend of Rs. 225.50 crore approx.
The film performed best in its home market of the Telugu states, particularly in Coastal Andhra. In Coastal Andhra, the film grossed Rs. 62 crore approx over its four-day weekend, comparing favourably with the Rs. 66 crore of Pushpa 2, Rs. 60 crore of They Call Him OG, Rs. 57 crore of Kalki 2898 AD and Rs. 49.50 crore of Devara. Nizam also delivered a strong performance, while Ceded performed well in absolute terms, but relative to how it did in Coastal Andhra, it could have been better here.
Overall, the four days in Telugu states amounted to Rs. 142 crore approx. The film shall hit Rs. 150 crore today and then move towards Rs. 200 crore mark, which only seven films have managed to date. There is a very good chance it reaches the top five, which will depend on how well it holds in the coming weeks. Most of the other films that did Rs. 200 crore had some kind of holiday support in the run. Peddi does not have that advantage, but it does have the benefit of an open field ahead, which could prove equally valuable.
Elsewhere, the film has done well in Karnataka with Rs. 20 crore plus weekend. A Hindi-dubbed version was also released, but it failed to make any significant impact.
