Nothing Phone 4 is not coming in 2026, CEO Carl Pei confirms – Firstpost

Nothing CEO Carl Pei confirms that the company is focusing on Phone 4a and its audio hardware. In an interview, Pei also said that Nothing is not keen to rush to launch the next flagship device, the Nothing Phone 4.

If you were waiting for the Nothing Phone 4 this year, prepare to be disappointed. Founder and CEO Carl Pei has confirmed that the company will not release its next flagship smartphone in 2026. Instead, Nothing is steering its focus towards strengthening its mid-range lineup and audio portfolio, two areas that have proved surprisingly lucrative for the young UK-based tech brand.

The announcement came via a new video released on Thursday, where Pei laid out Nothing’s 2026 roadmap. The clip touches on everything from product launches and pricing shifts to leadership changes and expansion plans. But the key takeaway? No flagship this year.

But, this should not come as a surprise for the fans. Nothing has been following this timeline since day one. After launching Phone 2 in 2023, Nothing took a step back and started churning out its A series. Phone 2a was launched in late 2024. The next year, it launched Phone 3a and 3a Pro in March 2025. After the company was satisfied by these mid-budget smartphones, after two years gap, it launched its flagship phone, Phone 3.

Nothing’s “Phase Two”

Pei described 2026 as a turning point for the company, saying Nothing has moved beyond its “build phase” and is now entering “phase two”, a stage focused on maturity and smarter scaling.

“We don’t want to launch a new flagship every year just for the sake of it,” Pei said, adding that Nothing wants each release to feel meaningful rather than routine.

That philosophy explains the decision to skip the Nothing Phone 4 in 2026. The Phone 3 will continue as the company’s flagship through 2026, while attention shifts to the upcoming Phone 4a. Expected later this year, the Phone 4a will reportedly bring significant design and performance upgrades over last year’s Phone 3a, while staying true to Nothing’s signature minimalist aesthetic.

The A-series has quietly become the brand’s backbone. Nothing launched the Phone 2a in 2024, followed by the Phone 3a in early 2025. With the Phone 4a now on the horizon, the company is clearly positioning this series as its volume driver. Pei even teased that fans could expect a Pro variant again, just as it did last year.

Audio ambitions and AI-driven software

While smartphones remain central to the brand, 2026 will see Nothing double down on audio. Pei confirmed that the company’s debut over-ear model, the Nothing Headphone 1, outperformed expectations, both in sales and critical reception. The success has motivated the company to treat audio as a serious growth category. Expect new products, expanded distribution, and perhaps even a few design surprises from the brand that loves its transparent aesthetic.

On the software front, Pei shared updates on Nothing OS 4.0 and a new experimental feature called Essential apps. The idea? Let users create their own apps and widgets simply by describing what they want, no coding needed. The feature is currently in alpha, set to enter beta soon, and will first roll out to Phone 3 users.

Market pressures and price jumps

However, it’s not all smooth sailing.
Pei addressed the industry-wide issue of rising component costs, particularly the surge in RAM and storage prices driven by the AI boom. “Brands have two choices, raise prices or cut specs,” he said bluntly. For Nothing, the plan is to raise prices slightly while maintaining quality. Pei expects the volatile pricing environment to persist through 2026 and beyond.

By focusing on meaningful upgrades, mid-range value, and a stronger ecosystem, the brand hopes to solidify its reputation as the bold disruptor of the smartphone world.
