We’ve seen some Nintendo developers leaving the company in the last few years, and their contributions to the company were no doubt notable. Today we’ve learned of another employee set to depart Nintendo, and this time around it’s a true icon.
As revealed by Nintendo in their latest fiscal results, legendary Nintendo developer Takashi Tezuka is retiring from the company. Tezuka will be sticking around until June 26th, 2026, and then he’s off to enjoy his retirement. Tezuka is calling it quits at the age of 65, and has been with Nintendo since 1984.
Tezuka has truly been an absolutely crucial part of Nintendo’s history, having worked on pretty much every Nintendo franchise there is. You name a notable Nintendo IP and Tezuka has had a part in it. Tezuka helped bring about titles in the Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Star Fox and so many other franchises. Without a doubt, Tezuka’s departure from Nintendo will be felt for decades to come, but the games he helped create will last an eternity.
In the same document, it’s also listed that 3 directors at Nintendo, Takuya Yoshimura, Katsuhiro Umeyama, Keiko Akashi, are all retiring on the same date as well. The trio of directors were all part of the Audit and Supervisory Committee.
