To celebrate the remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Ubisoft is putting on a $500,000 treasure hunt that’s set to last for up to five years.
After teaming up with Unsolved Hunts, Ubisoft revealed Gold & Crystal – The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway. As part of this special hunt, half a million dollars’ worth of prizes have been buried somewhere in the Caribbean, and it’s up to fans to find them.
The loot is full of goodies directly related to Black Flag, including a replica crystal skull and some golden dabloons engraved with the game’s logo.
Treasure hunt for Black Flag remake could last five years
The experience has been designed as a large-scale puzzle challenge inspired by the golden age of piracy. Participants will need to decipher a cryptic message in a bottle, study a Caribbean treasure map, and solve 15 different puzzles hidden within letters and archives tied to the games.
This will all lead to the discovery of one specific location in the Caribbean, where the chest is safely buried away.
Ubisoft / Unsolved HuntsIt costs $35 to enter, can be completed remotely, and does not require prior knowledge of Black Flag to participate. However, fans of the game will notice “numerous references” connected to Edward Kenway and the wider Assassin’s Creed lore.
The player who correctly pinpoints the location first will be flown out to the Caribbean to personally dig up their plunder.
The challenge doesn’t get underway properly until November 9, 2026. But, those who sign up early will also get access to an extra puzzle to give them a “taste” of what’s to come, as well as gain early access to the first clue, giving them a slight head start.
Don’t expect it to be an easy solve, though. The hunt is expected to last anywhere between two and five years, meaning that by the time the treasure is claimed, we may well already have a new Assassin’s Creed game or another remake.
