MS Dhoni may have stepped away from international cricket, but the former captain continues to share a lasting association with the game. As part of its longstanding welfare scheme, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provides pensions to its retired players, ensuring financial support beyond their playing careers.
Under this programme, Dhoni, who led India to World Cup victory in 2011, receives a monthly pension of Rs 70,000. The former wicketkeeper-batter represented India in 90 Tests, 350 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 98 T20 Internationals, placing him in the top bracket of retired Test players whose pensions were revised from Rs 50,000-Rs 70,000.
Several other stalwarts, including Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, also receive Rs 70,000 per month. Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh draws Rs 60,000, while Vinod Kambli receives Rs 30,000 per month as financial assistance.
Beyond cricket, Dhoni has built a wide-ranging business and endorsement portfolio, contributing to an estimated net worth of over Rs 1,200 crore. From brand partnerships to investments, along with his interest in organic farming, the former India skipper remains one of the country’s most recognisable sporting figures, long after his retirement from international cricket.
