Google’s Gemini Omni brings AI video generation and conversational editing

Google is pushing deeper into AI-generated content with Gemini Omni, a new model designed to turn different forms of input into editable videos through natural language instructions.

Announced at Google I/O 2026, the move expands Gemini beyond text and image generation into multimodal video creation. Gemini Omni combines Gemini’s reasoning capabilities with generative tools to create video outputs from text, images, audio and video inputs.

The first model in the family, Gemini Omni Flash, is rolling out through the Gemini app, Google Flow and YouTube Shorts. In the coming months, support for additional output formats including images and audio is also expected.

From prompts to edits through conversation

Unlike conventional AI video tools that often require repeated prompts and separate editing steps, Gemini Omni is built around conversational editing. Users can continue refining videos across multiple instructions while maintaining continuity from previous changes.

Characters remain consistent across scenes, edits retain context from earlier prompts and videos can be modified without restarting the creative process. Users can alter environments, change actions, add objects or introduce entirely new elements while preserving the flow of the original scene.

The system also aims to bring greater realism to generated content by applying a broader understanding of physics and contextual knowledge.

Combining multiple inputs into one video

Gemini Omni can work across multiple forms of media simultaneously. Existing videos, images, sketches and audio files can be used as references and transformed into a single output.

The model also draws on Gemini’s broader understanding of history, science and cultural context to create explainers and visual storytelling formats alongside creative content generation.

Google also introduced avatar features that allow users to create digital versions of themselves using their own voice for AI-generated videos.

Gemini Omni Flash is rolling out globally to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers and will also become available on YouTube Shorts and YouTube Create.
