‘Gen V’ Canceled After 2 Seasons, ”Vought Rising’ Confirmed For 2027

Anchor The Boys is not the only live-action series in Prime Video‘s superhero franchise that has come to an end. Spinoff Gen V will not return for a third season.

The news, which comes six months after Season 2 of the YA drama set at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting came to an end, was expected. One of the Gen V stars, Asa Germann, recently booked a series regular role on another streaming show, Paramount+’s Frisco King.

While Gen V is over and mothership The Boys is ending its five-season run on May 20, the franchise continues with spinoff Vought Rising, which is set to debut in 2027.

Additionally, due to the integrated Vought Cinematic Universe storytelling, characters from Gen V are featured on the current fifth season of The Boys, which also is incorporating characters and other elements from Vought Rising. The former was set up in the Gen V Season 2 finale, where supes were recruited by The Boys’ Annie January (Erin Moriarty) for the resistance against Homelander’s dictatorship, which is at the heart of the Emmy-winning series’ final chapter.

“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” said VCU executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg. “You’ll see them again.”

In addition to Vought Rising, The Boys: Mexico remains in active development. All series in the franchise are produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.

Gen V got off to a hot start, earning a Season 2 renewal midway through its Season 1 run. The series suffered a tragic loss when one of its stars, Chance Perdomo, died in a motorcycle accident on his way to the set in March 2024. As a result, production of the second season was delayed.
