The Edwardsville Open returns to the EHS Tennis Center this weekend.
The tournament begins Thursday, June 12 and concludes Saturday, June 14. Competition will feature men’s and women’s open divisions, along with 4.0 singles and doubles draws.
The men’s open singles champion will receive a main-draw wild card into the Edwardsville Futures, while the men’s open doubles champions will earn a doubles wild card into the Edwardsville Futures. The region’s only professional tennis tournament is scheduled for July 26-Aug. 2.
Top seeds in the men’s open singles draw include No. 1 William Mroz, No. 2 Kyle McNally, No. 3 Tyler Bowers, No. 4 Shaan Patel, No. 5 Eli Bartek and No. 6 Adrian Dibildox.
Mroz recently completed his senior season at the University of Illinois, where he finished ranked No. 96 nationally in singles and No. 61 in doubles.
McNally earned Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Player honors and was named all-conference following a standout junior season at Dayton.
Edwardsville High School graduates competing in the men’s open singles draw include Erik Weiler, Brandon Wong, Seth Lipe and Zach Trimpe.
In the women’s open singles draw, top seeds are No. 1 Yvonne Shannon and No. 2 Ashley Hayes.
A Parkway North graduate, Shannon played for Missouri Baptist University and competed primarily at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions throughout the season.
Edwardsville representatives in the women’s draw include Albina Selimi and Dia Kannan.
In men’s doubles, Gus Tettamble and Bowers are the top-seeded team.
The tournament is presented by the Opel Bash Group.
