Dua Lipa sues Samsung Electronics over alleged use of image on TV boxes

Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics in a California federal court, alleging the company used her image without permission on television packaging.

The singer is seeking at least $15 million in damages over alleged copyright, trademark, and publicity rights violations.

According to the lawsuit, Samsung used a copyrighted image titled ‘Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024’ on cardboard television boxes sold at retail outlets. The filing claims the use of the image created the impression that Lipa endorsed the products.

The lawsuit also states that the singer became aware of the alleged infringement in June 2025 and asked Samsung to stop using the image. According to the filing, the company continued using the packaging despite the request.

Court filings submitted by Lipa’s legal team include screenshots of social media posts and comments allegedly linking the packaging to consumer purchase intent. One cited comment read that a customer would buy the television ‘just because Dua is on it’.

A spokesperson for Samsung Electronics declined to comment, stating that the company could not comment on pending litigation. Dua Lipa’s legal representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The lawsuit further alleges that Samsung’s use of the image diluted the singer’s ‘brand identity and commercial goodwill’ by suggesting endorsement or approval of the products.
