Yellowstone fans know and love Beth Dutton for her feisty, brash personality and unwavering love story with Rip Wheeler. While Kelly Reilly, the actress who portrays her, is notably softer in real life, her husband is an American man’s man, much like Rip (Cole Hauser).
In an interview with Virgin Radio UK about the Dutton Ranch spinoff, Kelly opened up about her real-life love story. When asked how much her husband resembles Rip, she was quick to respond. “He’s a man; he’s a dude; he’s my man,” she nodded along, smiling, while Cole Hauser, who was also on-air, pointed out that he’s American. “He’s quiet, you know, but… there’s definitely a crossover,” Kelly continued. “Kyle’s the man,” Cole added.
Funny enough, Kelly met her husband, Kyle Baugher, in Texas, where most of Dutton Ranch was filmed. “I met him at his brother’s wedding [in Texas]; I was a plus-one, didn’t know anybody. I basically gatecrashed a wedding and fell in love with the best man, who I thought was Texan,” Kelly shared. In reality, Kyle is from Long Island and was merely visiting Texas on his brother’s behalf. “All respect to Long Island, but yeah, he wasn’t my fancy of cowboy—and this is all pre-Yellowstone,” Kelly continued.
Kyle, a financier, might not have been the rugged Texan cowboy Kelly initially imagined, but that didn’t stop her from marrying him. And once they tied the knot, they had the most Yellowstone-coded honeymoon of all. “We went to Montana,” Kelly nostalgically recalled. “We were literally at a ranch—I wanted to go riding in Montana. This is like 2012 and… I remember saying to Kyle, ‘God, wouldn’t it be amazing to come to work in a place like this’—I was working at the time in a backlot in Brooklyn and it’s not the same—and I said ‘Wouldn’t it be great to go to work in such beautiful nature.’”
Five years later, she landed her role as Beth Dutton on Yellowstone. Suffice to say, getting to work on the show’s incomparable Montana sets was a dream come true for Kelly.
