Bruno Fernandes spoke to Benjamin Sesko about the positions he had to take up just before Manchester United kicked off against Brentford on Monday night. Fernandes was spotted in a deep conversation with Sesko seconds before the game started.

Casemiro opened the scoring against Brentford and Sesko extended the advantage before half-time, finishing powerfully from close range after an assist from Fernandes, his 19th of the league season.

Sesko and Fernandes passionately celebrated together. The Slovenia international had not scored in his last three matches, but broke his mini-drought to score the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory against the London club.

Sesko spoke in the mixed zone after the Brentford win, and he was asked about his exchange with Fernandes just seconds before the game started.

“Just about the details in the game,” he said. “His positioning, in certain positions where I have to be. Because again, I’m listening to him on and off the pitch, you know. I’ve been looking up to him a lot since I arrived here, and he’s helping me a lot.”

Sesko described Fernandes as ‘outstanding’. “You have to use him, you know? The way he’s playing, the way he’s understanding the game, it’s just outstanding, and I’m really pleased that I can be part of the team being with him and using him is the most important,” he said.

The United captain is now just a single assist shy of equalling the Premier League assist record, currently held jointly by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and former Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

When asked whether Fernandes will break the record, Sesko said: “Look, he’s capable of everything!”

The striker also heaped praise on Casemiro, who scored his ninth goal of the season. “Of course,” Sesko said when asked whether he was disappointed that the Brazilian was leaving upon the expiry of his contract.

“He’s a working machine. He’s experienced, and what he’s putting on the pitch is unbelievable. You need someone like this. Unfortunately, he’s leaving, but yeah, we have to… we are pleased that we can manage him until the last minute in the game and we’re going to use him.”

He added: “The way you look at him, it’s very important, you know? And I think you can be stupid if you don’t look at him and try to be like him when it comes to the work rate and stuff.

“And yeah, again, as I said, I think everyone is pleased that he is here. Unfortunately, he leaves [at the end of the season], but yeah, it’s important to keep him up like this.”
