Manchester United defeated Brentford on Monday night under the lights at Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick seeing his team inch toward Champions League football.
After defeating Brentford, Manchester United are a win away from wrapping up Champions League qualification with four games to spare.
United beat Brentford 2-1 thanks to a superb first-half performance, which saw the Red Devils go into the break 2-0 ahead.
The second half saw the foot off the gas, dropping to a back five to try and control the game a bit better, allowing Brentford to get back into it.
Ultimately, United held onto the lead, much to the annoyance of Keith Andrews, but he couldn’t hold back his praise for one player.

Keith Andrews verdict on whether Bruno Fernandes should win Player of the Year award
Bruno Fernandes was excellent against Brentford, grabbing his 20th assist of the league season and furthering his claim to win the coveted Premier League player of the year award.
Following the game, Brentford boss Keith Andrews was asked about Fernandes’ chances, as quoted by MEN, hailing the United captain.
“He is a top player and has been for a number of years for United, a talismanic figure, and he has been at the forefront of what they have done.”
From an opposition manager, this is high praise and proves why Fernandes should win the player of the year award this season.
Andrews also praised the improvements of United under Michael Carrick.
“Everyone is going on about United and the change from them, and the obvious one is the managerial one.”
Carrick says Top 5 isn’t enough. Honestly, based on his run, do you think we are a genuine Title Contender for next season?
Bruno Fernandes has been on fire under Michael Carrick
For the past six years, Bruno Fernandes has been sensational for Manchester United, but his form in the 13 games since Michael Carrick took charge has been something else entirely.
Fernandes has racked up 11 assists and three goals in just 13 games under the former United midfielder, a rate of contribution which would have him on course for over 30 assists in a 38-game league season, along with nearly 10 goals
Fernandes has the assist record in his sights, needing one to equal it in the next four games, two to break it. But on current form, he could set a new ridiculously high record.
This season, Fernandes has been at his very best for United, showing no signs of slowing down as he turns 32 in September.
United can’t allow him to be sold this summer; instead, Ineos should be looking to extend his deal beyond 2027 because Fernandes should be retiring at Old Trafford.
