Veteran actor Annu Kapoor is often known for voicing his opinions candidly, never shying away from sharing his thoughts on films, society, and the industry with his trademark honesty and wit. In 2025, he found himself at the centre of a controversy after commenting on Tamannaah Bhatia’s appearance. In a fresh interview, the actor has now reacted to the backlash and clarified his stance.

It all started after Annu Kapoor appeared on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, where he made the ‘milky body’ comment. While reacting to Tamannaah’s performance in the Aaj Ki Raat song, he had said, “Mashallah kya dudhiya badan hai (Oh my god, what milky body she has).” His comment instantly went viral online, attracting backlash. Now, the veteran actor spoke about the controversy during his appearance on Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube Channel. He shared the exact circumstances that led to his remark.

He said, “Last year I had shows in America. I told our creative team that the contestants are good, so suggest a googly-type song. Then they played this song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’. I said the composition is very good. They said the song is very popular but contestants won’t be able to score in it, so it can be a googly song because the ‘mukhda’ doesn’t fully land. I asked them to show me the video. I watched it and said she is dancing very well. That’s all that happened.”

Talking about the massive criticism, Annu Kapoor said that the issue became bigger because of the language. He said that while some people criticised and abused him over his remark, others pointed out that the phrase “milky body” is commonly used in English. He added, “If you say it in English, it’s fine, but in Hindi it becomes a problem. Abuse in our own language hits harder, but if you say the same thing in English, no one has an issue. If I had said ‘milky body’, there would have been no problem. What age would she be—28, 30? My children are that age. Just because I said ‘dudhiya badan’, people started calling me an old man and trolling me.”

Clarifying his stance further, Annu Kapoor explained that even if he notices someone’s physical appearance, he views it as appreciation rather than desire. He emphasised that admiring someone’s physique does not equate to lust, drawing a distinction between observation and intent. To illustrate his point, he compared it to appreciating a luxury car like a Rolls-Royce; admiration, he said, does not necessarily translate into wanting or coveting it.

Annu Kapoor also stated that he has no hesitation in owning up to his words and is willing to apologise if necessary. He said, “If she asks me whether I said it, I will say yes, I did. If you felt bad, I will touch your feet. If a 71-year-old man touches her feet, what will she say? Nothing, because I am not doing it with any wrong intention.”

Tamannaah Bhatia‘s Aaj Ki Raat song is from the film Stree 2. It also stars alongside Pankaj Tripathi and Rajkummar Rao.
