Andy Murray reveals how Novak Djokovic bends the usual tour schedule

Andy Murray, a famous tennis player, retired from the sport a few years ago, but is still active in the world of tennis in other ways. At the beginning of this year, he collaborated with Novak Djokovic, but he continues to attract attention after they parted ways.

In a guest appearance on The Tennis Podcast, he talked about the main topic these days; tennis calendar. The British tennis player is not satisfied with the schedule, considering that most strictly follow the calendar, although they have the possibility of adjustment. Murray gave Novak as an example, saying that the Serbian tennis player doesn’t always follow that rule, just like Federer did a few years ago.

“It’s a regret of mine that as a player, a lot of them just follow what the schedule says that you have to do.

Novak is a good example of that this year, where he has not done that, and at times Federer did not do that. You are allowed to miss tournaments. Obviously, there are certain penalties in place for that. There is a bit of a balance to it.”-Andy Murray said, as quoted by The Tennis Gazette.

Masters tournaments

Masters tournaments that have been extended for two weeks cause special frustrations among tennis players, especially among experienced and older ones who are not used to such a regime.

Andy Murray points out that he was on the ATP Player Council when the vote was taken to extend the Masters tournaments, and even though he was against it, the decision was definitely made. The British tennis player does not agree that the players will have more time to recover between matches given the long period of two weeks.

“I was sitting on the ATP Player Council when this got voted for, to change the Masters series to longer events. I was completely against that change, because one, I liked the Masters series how they were. They were great events.

And the feeling from the ATP at the time was that there would be less injuries because you would have more time to recover between matches.

But my feeling was that if you put a two-week tournament on, there is less time for players to actually recover as well.”

Be that as it may, tennis fans and players must accept this outcome, believing that it is necessary to resort to changes that will take this sport in the right direction. Whether these changes will occur in the near future or not remains to be seen.
