Yet another new Onn Streaming Stick passes through FCC approval

Posted on

Walmart just released its new Onn 4K Stick and 2nd-gen Onn 4K Pro streaming devices. The retailer hasn’t been able to keep up with demand, as it is difficult to find them in stock online or in stores, yet it’s already moving ahead with another new model. An FCC filling for a new Onn Full HD Streaming Stick just recieved approval, as spotted by Redditor kz00, and this new offering may hold the key to solving Walmart’s supply issues.

The new unreleased Onn HD Stick uses model numbers HP47R and HP4718. All indication is that it will be identical to the existing model, which was released in 2023 and uses an Amlogic S805X2 with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. While the internals have been updated, the housing looks exactly the same, down to the outdated micro USB port. It may seem strange for Walmart to be re-releasing what appears to be the exact same device, but it seems to have to do with the manufacturer.

Nearly all of Walmart’s Onn streaming devices have been manufactured by SDMC. The only exception is the first Onn 4K box from 2021, because it was a rebranded version of Google’s ADT-3 reference design made by Askey. This new Onn HD Stick is the first to be made by Skyworth, which manufactures all of Mecool’s recent streaming devices and many other models.

Walmart is probably switching to Skyworth or continuing with both manufacturers to keep up with demand and work around supply bottlenecks. I wouldn’t be surprised if Walmart sells this new model as the existing model with the same box and product listing. Meaning, buyers won’t know if they’re getting the new or old version.
