A viral video is currently taking the internet by storm, where a techie from Noida shares his eye-opening journey of trying to build a small roadside business selling simple items like Rs 15 chai, fresh juice, boiled eggs, and protein shakes right outside a busy gym.

A Noida-based tech professional named Vishwas Verma just dropped a reality check, in his viral video, techie shares how he thought selling something as simple as Rs 15 chai (or juice, eggs, and protein shakes) outside a gym would be easy money. Like so many of us scrolling past street vendors, he used to do the “quick maths” in his head: “Cost Rs 5 to make, sell for Rs 10–15. Sell 1,000 cups a day? That’s Rs 5,000–10,000 profit, no boss, no stress!”

Vishwas poured his savings into the setup—cart, ingredients, basic equipment. Mornings looked promising: fresh juices, boiled eggs, quick shakes for gym-goers chasing protein. Footfall? Not even close. On most days, only 30-40 customers showed up. “I thought the gym crowd would line up,” he admitted.

However, the numbers soon began to unravel. Pricing proved difficult to control, particularly for items like fresh juice, where input costs shifted almost daily. He recalls selling pineapple juice for Rs 90, only to realise the production cost was nearly identical, driven by expensive raw materials and the use of a cold-press machine. Eggs, which were expected to be a low-cost staple, ended up costing Rs 7–Rs 8 instead of Rs 5, with additional losses from breakage during preparation. Protein shakes, priced.

The hidden costs crushed the dream fast. Raw material prices fluctuated daily—fruits, eggs, milk, masala all spiked without warning. Wastage was brutal: unsold juice spoils, eggs crack, shakes separate. Electricity for the small fridge, cleaning supplies, transport to restock, and the sheer time spent standing there (no weekends off) added up. No fixed rent, but permissions, bribes for spot clearance, and unexpected repairs ate margins. Some days he barely covered costs. Profit? Often zero or straight into losses.

“I realised small business isn’t ‘easy money’—it’s sweat, uncertainty, and constant hustle,” Vishwas said in the video. “Rs 15 chai looks simple from the outside, but when you’re the one making it, paying every rupee out of pocket, the math falls apart.”

His message is going viral for a reason: thousands of salaried folks dream of quitting corporate life for a thela or small shop after seeing influencers flaunt “passive income.” Vishwas isn’t hating on street vendors—they survive through family labour, zero overheads, and decades of street-smart tweaks. But for someone used to a paycheck, it’s a brutal wake-up call.

The post gained both support and criticism from social media users with commenting, “Even my grandmother knew these hidden costs have to be included. Yeh 9-5 kar kaise rahe hain with such low acumen of business, isliye yeh viral hue hain.”

Some even suggested, “u r opening juice stall outside gym😂😂😂😂chose bus stand , station , or family area.”

One user wrote, “Sometimes reality hits different, you though some other way and it becomes other way.”

Moral of the story? Test the waters part-time, track every single expense, pick high-footfall spots wisely and whatever you do.
