Actor Yash has addressed the ongoing discussion around the promotional material of his upcoming film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups, which recently drew criticism over its sensual visuals. The film, directed by Geetu Mohandas, has been one of the most anticipated releases, marking Yash’s return to the big screen after the success of the KGF series.
Yash breaks silence on “obscene” scenes criticism, backs Geetu Mohandas’ vision for Toxic: “A gangster film with a female gaze is refreshing”
The conversation around the film intensified after certain promotional clips were criticised by sections of viewers, with objections raised over what was described as “obscene” content. Amid this, Yash spoke about the creative intent behind the film during an interaction with American content creator Sabeen Faheem at CinemaCon.
Responding to a question about working with a female director on a large-scale action project, Yash said, “That’s the most exciting part. So what happens is that when you generally say action films, it’s only restricted to male directors. That’s been historically (true) in India. A lot of people have done that. A large-scale action film, that too a gangster film with a female gaze, is something which is very new and refreshing.”
He further spoke about how the film approaches themes like romance and sensuality, suggesting that the perspective brought by Geetu Mohandas adds a different dimension to the storytelling. “Thoughts are very clear, and she has a strong conviction in whatever she does. And she’s a fabulous writer. I could learn so much, you know. The desire quotient or certain emotions, romance or sensuality, how a female can show, a woman can present is entirely different is what I’ve realised in this journey,” he said.
Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups is expected to blend action with emotional and stylistic elements. The film was scheduled to release on March 19, 2026, clashing with Dhurandhar The Revenge. However, the makers postponed the release due to the Middle East crisis. It is scheduled to be released on June 4, 2026, now.
