Discord Nitro is getting a major gaming-focused upgrade after Discord and Xbox announced a new partnership that adds Xbox Game Pass Starter to Nitro memberships.
The update was announced by both Xbox Wire and Discord on May 11, with the companies also confirming that Xbox Game Pass subscribers will soon receive Discord Nitro perks as part of the collaboration.
According to Discord, Nitro members in eligible regions will now receive a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost. The subscription includes access to a library of more than 50 PC and console games, along with 10 hours of cloud gaming.
Discord said the update is part of its biggest expansion to Nitro since the service launched, with the company aiming to turn Nitro into a broader gaming membership instead of just a Discord-focused subscription.
Discord Nitro now includes Xbox Game Pass Starter
Discord confirmed that Nitro members will be able to access games, including Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, DayZ, Deep Rock Galactic, Overcooked 2, and Grounded, through the new Game Pass Starter benefit.
The company also said new titles will continue to be added over time.
Xbox explained that Discord has also introduced new discovery features designed to make it easier for users to jump into Game Pass titles directly from Discord activity or game streams. If users see a friend playing a supported game, they can now look for a “Play” button and launch it through Xbox Game Pass.
In its announcement, Discord described the update as part of a larger push to expand Nitro beyond the platform itself.
“We’ve always thought of Nitro as a way to make Discord better,” Discord said. “Now we want it to be a gaming membership that makes everything around it better too.”
Xbox Game Pass subscribers are also getting Discord perks
Xbox also confirmed that eligible Game Pass subscribers will soon receive new Discord Nitro benefits later in May.
The upcoming perks include:
- 250 Discord Orbs every month
- 1.2x extra Orbs when completing Quests
- Automatically applied Discord Shop discounts
The Game Pass addition also comes after Microsoft lowered the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from $29.99 to $23.99, and PC Game Pass from $16.49 to $13.99.
