WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Start Time, Odds And Streaming Info On Dec. 13, 2025

John Cena’s last time is here. The 17-time world champion wraps up his illustrious career tonight in the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Cena headlines a card filled with WWE’s present and future, and while little is known about any post-match ceremony, there is almost guaranteed to be one as arguably WWE’s greatest top star of all time says goodbye.

Cena will go one-on-one against Gunther in his final match. A former two-time world champion and the longest-reigning Intercontinental champion of all time, Gunther is already firmly entrenched as WWE’s top star of the future. A win over John Cena in Cena’s final match would be the icing on the cake.

“I mean, I can only speak for myself. And I haven’t really—I shook hands twice with [Cena], I didn’t really have any interactions with him otherwise.” said Gunther during an interview with Stephen A. Smith. “I just remember when I started wrestling, like 20 years ago now, I remember that I hated that guy in jorts on that TV week by week. And I always thought it doesn’t belong in the ring.”

“I’m a big purist, I’m a big traditionalist,” Gunther continued. “And I said it on Monday, John Cena’s definitely the greatest sports entertainer of all time. But I’m the greatest professional wrestler there is right now, so that’s going to be the conflict.”

Gunther joins a field of fellow NXT alumni Oba Femi, Sol Ruca, Leon Slater and Je’Von Evans on what should be an emotional night of celebrating then and now in WWE.

John Cena Vs. Gunther | Should John Cena Win His Last Match?

The result of Cena’s final match has been a heated topic of discussion on social media and elsewhere. Cena lost his final Survivor Series match to Dominik Mysterio shortly after capturing the secondary title that eluded him his entire career. Now staring down the barrel of retirement, Cena is faced with the very possible reality of losing back-to-back matches to end his career.

Traditional wrestling logic submits that a legendary wrestler should “go out on their back.” This was the case in what was supposed to be Ric Flair’s final match at WrestleMania 24. Ric Flair’s longtime rival Sting went out on a positive note when he beat the Young Bucks for the AEW Tag Team Championships at Revolution 2024. There is no right answer to this dilemma. In fact, empirical wrestling history has seen the best and worst examples of a legend winning and losing in their last match.

I could see a case for either a Cena win or a loss in his last match. But given Gunther’s embarrassment of riches when it comes to imaginary brass rings in WWE, tonight should be Cena’s night.
