Why you should use up ALL your transfers in Gameweek 15 of FPL

The Scout outlines the advantages and suggests short-term luxury moves for attackers

Managers in Fantasy Premier League should ensure they use up ALL of their available transfers before the Gameweek 15 this Saturday at 11:00 GMT.

This is because immediately after the deadline you will be topped up to the maximum possible allocation of five free transfers.

So, if you have NO free transfers remaining when the deadline passes, you will be given five new ones and take full advantage.

But if you roll a free transfer into Gameweek 16, you will only be given four new ones, and you will effectively miss out on one.

The extra free transfers are arriving to help FPL managers restructure their squads as players depart for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which starts this month.

But for now, the priority going into this weekend is to use up all available transfers – and that presents an opportunity to make short-term, luxury moves which attack some enticing fixtures in Gameweek 15.

Brighton v West Ham
Fulham v Crystal Palace
Wolves v Man Utd

Prioritise Man City and Newcastle attackers

Manchester City and Newcastle United’s home records suggest they are the best clubs to invest in for attacking returns in Gameweek 15.

Both clubs will host promoted clubs on Saturday afternoon, with Pep Guardiola’s side entertaining Sunderland and the Magpies facing Burnley.

A look at the underlying data in home matches this season shows that Man City and Newcastle rank among the top four for big chances (BC), which are situations where a player is expected to score.

As the table below shows, Man City lead the way, with 28, averaging four per match over their seven fixtures at the Etihad Stadium. They have also scored the most goals at home, with 19, while their 17.3 per cent goal conversion ranks third.

Newcastle have had 22 big chances at St James’ Park, an average of just over three per match.

Their weekend visitors Burnley, meanwhile, have conceded 21 goals over their seven away matches, the worst record in the league. The Clarets also rank joint-bottom for big chances conceded in such contests, allowing 25 of them.

Most big chances in home matches 25/26
Club Goals % goals conv. BC
Man City 19 17.3 28
Brentford 15 19.2 27
Arsenal 18 16.5 23
Crystal Palace 9 9.8 23
Newcastle 12 12.2 22
Who are the best Man City picks?

If you’re willing to take the risk with Pep Guardiola’s rotation then Phil Foden‘s (£8.2m) back-to-back two-goal hauls have shown he clearly has the most upside of their midfielders to bring in alongside forward Erling Haaland (£14.9m).

Having mainly featured as a central midfielder this season, Foden has thrived in a more advanced role, delivering a massive 32 of his 65 points in the last two Gameweeks.

Although Guardiola is notorious for rotation in busy periods, Foden’s form – added to the fact that Man City’s 5-4 win over Fulham on Tuesday evening is four days before the Sunderland match – will surely make the Spaniard think twice over benching Foden or changing his role.

Foden is far and away the most-bought player in Gameweek 15, earning more than 537,000 transfers in, which is more than three times any other player.

At the back, Nico O’Reilly‘s (£5.2m) home form makes him the best defender to consider. The left-back has 42 points over his last six appearances at the Etihad Stadium, combining a goal and three assists with three clean sheets.

Who are the best Newcastle picks?

Handily for Fantasy managers, Eddie Howe’s decision to use Bruno Guimaraes (£6.7m) as a second-half substitute against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening is a strong indication that the midfielder will start against Burnley on Saturday.

The Brazilian emerged from the bench to score and earn a seven-point return against Spurs, extending his prolific run of output at St James’ Park. He has amassed 41 points across his last four home appearances, thanks to three goals and three assists.

Guimaraes’s goal v Spurs

That marks Guimaraes out as the best Newcastle midfielder to pick alongside frontman Nick Woltemade (£7.4m).

The German has proven one of the most consistent forwards in Fantasy since making his debut in Gameweek 4, producing a goal or an assist in seven of his 11 matches.

Centre-back Malick Thiaw (£5.0m) also looks a secure pick and has the goal threat to bring in a big haul – his nine shots in the box are more than the combined eight of every other Newcastle defender.

Also consider Brighton and Man Utd

There are two other matches which look encouraging for attacking returns – Brighton & Hove Albion’s home encounter with West Ham United, and Manchester United’s visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh (£6.3m) and Danny Welbeck (£6.6m) boast strong form at the Amex Stadium.

Minteh has one goal, four assists and 33 points in his last five home matches. Welbeck, meanwhile, has four goals and 28 points in his last four home appearances – and he was rested against Aston Villa in midweek.

For Man Utd’s match with Wolves, the imminent departure of Bryan Mbeumo (£8.6m) for AFCON means it’s all about Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m).

The Portuguese has delivered four of his five assists this season in his last four matches.

But any investment should be put on hold for now, of course, as Fernandes is yet to play his Gameweek 14 fixture, with Man Utd hosting West Ham on Thursday evening.
