Annu Kapoor recently opened up about his sister Seema Kapoor’s troubled relationship with Om Puri and accused the late actor of betraying her. While his statements have grabbed everyone’s attention, they have also left many intrigued by Seema’s short-term marriage to Puri. Let’s revisit what actually happened and what Seema had said about Om Puri in the past.
History Of Seema Kapoor’s Relationship With Om Puri
Seema Kapoor and Om Puri shared a brief and troubled marital relationship in the early 1990s. The two got married in 1991, but their union quickly ran into difficulties due to personal differences. Just eight months after their wedding, Om Puri sought a divorce from Seema as he started to date journalist Nandita. Interestingly, Seema was three months pregnant at that time.
Their marriage ended and Seema later revealed that the child did not survive. When Puri sent Rs 25,000 to her through a secretary as compensation, she refused to accept it.
Om Puri then married Nandita in 1993. They had a son together. However, the couple also got divorced in 2013.
Om Puri Apologised To Seema In His Final Days
Seema and Om Puri reconnected during his final days. Previously, in an interview with Galatta India Annu Kapoor’s sister revealed that even she chose to forgive him because he deserved “sympathy, not criticism”. “What he went through in the final 10 years of his life was pathetic, tragic, heartbreaking. I chose to forgive him when he apologised. It takes a large heart to apologise. If I didn’t slander him then, why should I slander him now,” she said.
“When he recovered, he told me that he was insecure about how he’d survive his twilight years, because he wasn’t being taken care of. My brother, Annu Kapoor, warned me to be careful, and that he was only looking for someone to look after him like a nurse. Because of his poor health, he became depressed, and he would take pills for it.”
Om Puri passed away in 2017.
