‘White Lotus’ Season 4 Casts Laura Dern


Laura Dern has joined the cast of “The White Lotus” Season 4, Variety has confirmed.

Dern is joining the series in place of Helena Bonham Carter, who recently exited the series shortly after filming began. Dern is not taking over the exact role Bonham Carter was to play, however. Instead, she is playing a new character developed by series mastermind Mike White.

Previously announced cast members are: Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani and Nadia Tereszkiewicz. Additional cast includes Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer and Laura Smet.

Per the official description of Season 4, “The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival. Hotels featured include the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes. In addition to Cannes, the season will film in St. Tropez, Monaco and Paris, though the story will remain set in the Côte d’Azur.

White is the writer, director, and executive producer. David Bernad and Mark Kamine also executive produce.

The role brings White and Dern back together under the HBO umbrella. The pair previously co-created the HBO series “Enlightened,” in which Dern also starred. They also worked together on the film “Year of the Dog,” which White wrote and directed an in which Dern played a supporting role. Dern also made an uncredited voice cameo in “The White Lotus” Season 2.

Dern is a nine-time Emmy Award nominee, winning the award for outstanding supporting actress in a limited series in 2017 for “Big Little Lies.” Her other nominations have come from her work on projects like “Palm Royale,” “The Tale,” and “Enlightened.” She is also a three-time Academy Award nominee, winning best supporting actress in 2020 for “Marriage Story.” Her other credits include the “Jurassic Park” franchise, 2019’s “Little Women,” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
