Supergirl star Milly Alcock has further elaborated on her viral comments from earlier this year in which she said “simply existing as a woman in that space [IP projects] is something that people comment on.” While the comments triggered a slew of men on social media, Alcock pointed out that she didn’t even specifically mention men in her quote.

In a Vanity Fair profile from earlier this year, the 25-year-old House of the Dragon star said her time on the Game of Thrones prequel prepared her for a particular kind of attention, especially as it relates to her body.

“It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,” Alcock said. “We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”

Milly Alcock further elaborated on her “simply existing as a woman” comments and pointed out that she didn’t even single out ‘men’ in the quote

Speaking to Variety in a new feature interview, Alcock further elaborated on her comments that triggered a bunch of adult men on the internet.

“I didn’t even say ‘men’ — I said ‘people!’. And they got so angry. I was like, ‘You’re proving my point. You’re proving my point!’” Alcock said.

“And [the backlash] is from a lot of people whose profiles have no photo, who are burner accounts. Or someone’s name and then ‘Dad of four, Christian,’ which is hilarious to me. But I mean, whose opinion do you really care about? If you’re pissing the right kind of people off, you’re doing OK.”

Alongside Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Supergirl also stars Jason Momoa as Lobo, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The film will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, June 26. You can check out the official trailer for Supergirl below.
