Chelsea are in familiar territory, once again. Searching for a new manager after the sacking of Liam Rosenior and if fans were to pick, they would choose Cesc Fabregas.

Chelsea confirmed that they had parted ways with Rosenior on Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours after Chelsea’s damning 3-0 loss to Brighton on Tuesday night. A fifth consecutive Premier League loss.

Calum McFarlane has been inserted as interim manager until the end of the season, having taken over for two games in January against Fulham and Man City. His first game? An FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Rosenior lasted just 106 days as Chelsea manager, losing 12 of 23 games in charge. Now, in the face of huge criticism, BlueCo must appoint a replacement, and a return for Fabregas would delight supporters.

What Chelsea’s owners feel about hiring Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas is obviously well-liked at Chelsea, having played for the Blues for five years, clocking up 198 appearances between 2014 and 2019. Since entering the world of management, Fabregas has thrived.

A part-owner of Como, Fabregas has been the manager since the start of the 2024-25 season following Como’s promotion to Serie A. A 10th-placed finish last season, Como sit fifth this time around.

Fabregas has proven he can thrive at the top level, not only as a player, but as a manager too. Simon Johnson says the Chelsea owners would love to bring Fabregas back to Stamford Bridge this summer.

“Cesc Fabregas, now, he is obviously a big fan favourite, and they would absolutely love Cesc Fabregas to take over,” Johnson said following the sacking of Rosenior, on The Athletic’s Straight Outta Cobham pod.

“He’s done an amazing job at Como with a fraction of the percentage of the budget that Chelsea have. Turned them into Champions League contenders in terms of Serie A. I mean, he ticks all the boxes.”

How realistic are Chelsea’s chances of hiring Fabregas?

Fabregas will find it difficult to leave Como. This is a side he has a deep affiliation with, not just as a manager, but as a player and part of the ownership group. He has been on a journey with the Italian side.

Gary Neville says the Chelsea owners are CLUELESS! Do you agree? 🤔

Como are looking good for European qualification. They might have dropped out of the Champions League places, but European competition would be a massive coup for a side in Serie B two years ago.

Eden Hazard dreams of watching Chelsea with Fabregas in the dugout. But those dreams look unlikely, especially with the Chelsea job seen as a bit of a poisoned chalice, given how Rosenior was treated.

Fabrizio Romano says Fabregas is focused on guiding Como into Europe and his plan is to remain with the Serie A side. Whether an approach from Chelsea could change that, remains to be seen.
