What Chelsea actually thought of Julian Nagelsmann after interviewing him a few years ago

Julian Nagelsmann is one name Chelsea are thought to be considering in their search for a new manager.

The Blues are looking for a new head coach after sacking Liam Rosenior and have been linked with Nagelsmann.

This is not the first time that the club have shown interest in the 38-year-old, who is currently managing the Germany national team.

Would you have Oliver Glasner or Niko Kovac as Chelsea’s next manager?

Kovac has won 41 of his 70 games as Dortmund manager…

Chelsea were not convinced by Julian Nagelsmann after previous interview

Chelsea had an interview with Nagelsmann a few years ago, but it was not a productive one. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the two parties were on two completely different pages, with the German not feeling that he should have been interviewed in the first place but rather headhunted.

Chelsea were clearly not impressed and were not convinced that he was the man for their dugout after talks.

Speaking on GiveMeSport’s YouTube channel, Jacobs said: “Interestingly, at the time, my sources told me that Nagelsmann wasn’t that sold on the Chelsea project, and Chelsea were not that convinced by the strength of Nagelsmann’s interview.

“Sources had said that he basically wanted to be headhunted and not be part of a thorough process, which is exactly what Chelsea are going to do now.”

Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann thinks Chelsea should consider Nagelsmann once again, and while they may be thinking about him, others seem more likely to get the job.

It is already being claimed that Xabi Alonso is emerging as the main candidate to succeed Rosenior. Unlike Nagelsmann, Alonso is not currently working right now, making the Spaniard more attainable.

Alonso has yet to take up a new job since being sacked by Real Madrid at the start of the year.

Chelsea fans would probably be happy with either Alonso or Nagelsmann. Both are high-profile names with trophies and experience on their CVs.

After everything that happened with Rosenior, the last thing supporters will want is another head coach who is still learning his trade.

However, following how his last interview went, Nagelsmann is unlikely to be at the top of Chelsea’s shortlist. The fact that he would not be able to start work until after the World Cup could also be an issue for the Conference League holders. Everything suggests this one will not happen.
