India captain Shubman Gill addressed the mix-up with Rohit Sharma that led to the former captain’s run-out in the first ODI against Afghanistan. A poor misunderstanding resulted in the former India skipper’s dismissal in Dharamsala on Saturday evening.

Rohit set off for a single after pushing Allah Ghazanfar’s delivery towards mid-on. Gill, at the other end, was caught ball-watching and got stuck behind the bowler’s follow-through. Having crossed halfway, Rohit tried to return but was caught short by sharp Afghan fielding, ending his innings early for just 16 runs.

Rohit’s disappointment was evident as the miscommunication cut short his innings. Gill, though, stayed focused and went on to play a match-winning knock. India comfortably chased down the target of 195, winning by seven wickets with 13 balls to spare. Leading from the front, Gill scored an unbeaten 84 and ensured the early setback didn’t affect the team’s chase.

After the match, when asked if he had spoken to Rohit about the run-out, Gill said, “I know he saw the replay. He said, “No, it’s fine.” Even in the last match that we played against Afghanistan T20s, he got run out there as well.”

Gill looked in excellent form throughout his innings, playing with control and confidence. He hit 11 fours and two sixes, guiding India smoothly to victory and keeping the chase on track.

He also spoke about the nature of the game and praised Afghanistan’s fight, especially Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s century.

“It was kind of a T20 game. The way we started, they pulled the game away from us. Gurbaz was brilliant and took the game away from us, but we fought back well. It was a brilliant wicket for batting. When we were bowling, there was a bit of grip, but it came on nicely when we batted,” Gill said.
