Warhammer 40K: New Yarrick, Wazdakka, & More Minatures Up Close

The Battle for Armageddon is about to explode and we’ve got a look at the new miniatures leading the charge in Warhammer 40,000!

It’s always fun to see what Games Workshop has done to update existing characters. Sometimes it’s fun because it’s like watching a car crash. And sometimes it’s fun because the miniatures are just awesome. Luckily, we got the new batch of characters from Yarrick’s Return to show off so you can judge for yourself!

Commissar Yarrick

While the old miniatures are classics, I do like this updated version. I appreciate that as Yarrick has gotten older, he’s also gotten more and more bionic enhancements to keep him in the fight. The backpack and additional servos are a nice touch. I do feel like at some point the Imperium is just going to stick him in a Dreadnought-esque walker so he can just go toe-to-toe (or Klaw-to-Klaw) vs Ghazghkull. You know you’d pay to see that fight!

Inquisitor Kroyle

I’ve talked about Inquisitor Kroyle from a rules perspective already. While I’m a little iffy on that aspect of him, I do like the exotic nature of his model. He does fit the mold of an Inquisitor on Safari. It’s kind of funny to think that the only reason he’s able to get away with having a Xenos rifle and a crazy Xenos mount is because he’s an Inquisitor and not one can really challenge him.

From a modeling perspective, I’d also like to point out that he’s got different head options and so does his mount, too.

Intranzia Fraye Dogmata Superior

So some veteran 40k players of a certain vintage might remember another Inquisitor who also had a throne-walker like the Dogmata Superior. Now, I’m not saying Intranzia Fraye is a replacement or even a copy/paste of Inquisitor Karamazov, I’m just pointing out the connection there. I like the call back and I like that GW brought back the throne/walker look for this character. It’s loaded with awesome details as well. Fraye is a great addition to the Adepta Sororitas range.

Wazdakka Gutsmek

I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t tempted to play Da Speed Waaagh! after seeing Wazdakka Gutsmek’s model. This thing is NUTS and super orky.  He really did strap a rokkit to his bike (or maybe built a bike around a rokkit). Anyhow, I think this is a really cool model and I love the basing they did for it, too. The cone of fire and the smoke trail is just cool all around. It’s really hard to pick this character NOT leading the charge with a mob of Ork Bikers struggling to keep up with him. Emperor protect whoever is on the receiving end of that WAAAGH!

Commissar Graves

I know a lot of folks were comparing this to Yarrick’s old mobile fortress. But there’s another thing I can’t unsee:

It’s the Genestealer Cult Limo. Will this kit spawn a resurgence of Genestealer Cults and/or conversions? I sure hope so. Heck, you can even use the Necromunda rules to take to a race track! Just tossing that out there.

Anyhow, I do like the new Astra Militarum transport that this is based on. Also, they didn’t pull a “Taurox” and actually made this a real half-track. And it looks WAAAY better for it. I do like the other details about this upgraded ride for Commissar Graves. But don’t forget you can also take her on foot if you choose to.

While she’s yet another Inquisitor, I still like the subtle flair they gave her. Having Commissar Graves descend ruined stairs in a nice way to give her some battle field elevation on the miniature without going for the classic “tactical rock” look.

All of these miniatures are up for Pre-Order this weekend from Games Workshop. Which one are you most excited about?
