Buyers who choose the BaaS option can get the Ebella at a much lower price of Rs 15.25 lakh

Toyota recently launched the Ebella, its first BEV for the Indian market. Ebella is essentially a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki eVitara. Both models share the same Heartect-e skateboard EV platform. For now, Toyota has announced prices for only the top-spec E3 variant. Deliveries of the E3 variants have now commenced.

Toyota Ebella – Pricing and features

Toyota has commenced deliveries of the Ebella top-spec variants across the country. The E3 monotone variant is available at a starting price of Rs 23.60 lakh. In comparison, the dual-tone variant costs Rs 20,000 more at Rs 23.80 lakh. Ebella will also be available in E1 and E2 trims. However, prices of these variants have not been announced.

For the Ebella, Toyota is also offering the BaaS (Battery as a Service) option to buyers. This makes it a lot more accessible. With the BaaS option, buyers need to pay only Rs 15.25 lakh for the vehicle. The charges for battery usage under BaaS are additional at Rs 4.99 per km. Managing a low variable cost is much easier than paying a high upfront cost for many users.

While the core hardware is the same for Ebella and eVitara, the former has a more premium design. This could prompt many buyers to go with the Ebella. However, from a cost perspective, the eVitara is a clear winner. Top-spec Alpha trim of the eVitara is available at Rs 20.01 lakh. With BaaS, the cost is Rs 14.51 lakh + Rs 4.39 per km battery rental charge. These numbers clearly show that Ebella is costlier in both standard and BaaS ownership options.

Toyota is expected to introduce the E1 and E2 versions of the Ebella soon. These will be equivalent to eVitara Delta and Zeta variants, respectively. Similar to the top variant, the equipment list will be largely similar across these lower and mid-spec variants of the Ebella. The eVitara Delta and Zeta trims are priced at Rs 15.99 lakh and Rs 17.79 lakh, respectively. The Ebella versions are expected to be priced higher.

Toyota Ebella – Performance, features

Top-spec E3 version of the Ebella is offered with only a 61 kWh battery pack. The front mounted motor generates 172 hp and 193 Nm of torque. ARAI certified range is 543 km. Lower variants of the Ebella will be equipped with a 49 kWh battery pack. These will have a range of around 440 km. Ebella supports DC fast charging, with 10-80% achievable in around 45 minutes.
