The iPhone Fold will reportedly feature a major redesign

The Apple iPhone Fold is one of the most anticipated smartphone launches right now. Many details about this foldable device have already leaked, including its reported use of revolutionary OLED display technology to eliminate any crease from the screen.

This time, reliable Weibo leaker Instant Digital has claimed that the iPhone Fold’s chassis will undergo a major redesign. This leak provides an idea of what the device might look like.

Here’s what Instant Digital has to say about the Apple iPhone Fold’s supposed redesign (translated via Google):

“The volume buttons are not on the left side, but are instead placed directly on the top right side of the device. The power button (integrated with Touch ID) and the AI button (camera button) are still on the right side. The rear dual cameras, microphone, and flash are arranged horizontally on the right side. The module “appears” to have a completely black base, not matching the body color.”

Traditionally, iPhones have featured volume rocker buttons on the left side and the power button on the right. More recently, Apple has introduced a dedicated Camera Control button on the bottom right.

However, Instant Digital claims that on the iPhone Fold, all buttons, including the volume rockers, will be relocated to the right side. Moreover, the power button will reportedly include a Touch ID sensor, suggesting that Face ID may be absent on this model.

As for the rear cameras, Instant Digital believes the smartphone will feature dual rear cameras and a single front-facing camera. The rear camera module will reportedly be positioned horizontally, like the iPhone Air, and appears to be “all black, not the same color as the body.”

Since the left side of the phone will not have any buttons, Apple is reportedly using the extra space to fit a larger battery. According to Instant Digital, the iPhone Fold will have the largest battery capacity in iPhone history. The device is also expected to be powered by the upcoming Apple A20 or A20 Pro chip, which reportedly utilizes TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process.

It remains to be seen how accurate this leak is, but Instant Digital has proven reliable in the past.
