The budget benchmark? OnePlus Nord CE6 puts value back in focus

Given the ever-rising price of smartphones, finding a genuinely good handset below ₹30,000 is becoming increasingly difficult. The OnePlus Nord CE6 presents itself as the answer — a capable, no-fuss daily companion. It arrives with a clean interface and an impressive battery. The question is whether the trade-offs are ones you can live with.

Context helps here. A global memory shortage has made it harder for manufacturers to keep prices in check, and in 2026, 8GB of RAM is broadly the ceiling for budget devices. Without an efficient chipset to compensate, phones in this bracket can feel sluggish and frustrating. OnePlus has navigated this constraint rather well, pairing that 8GB of RAM with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 — a reliable, capable processor that punches above its weight. The result is one of the smoothest budget phones we have used in recent months.

Built to feel good

The polycarbonate frame and back come with a matte finish that resists fingerprints and smudges admirably. Despite housing a massive 8,000mAh battery, the Nord CE6 manages to remain slim, and at 215g it sits comfortably in the hand — substantial without being unwieldy.

The display is a highlight. The 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel supports a 144Hz refresh rate, and the difference in smoothness is immediately apparent. It peaks at 3,600 nits of brightness with 1,800 nits in High Brightness Mode, which means it holds up perfectly well in direct sunlight. Outdoors visibility is simply not an issue. Running beneath it all is OxygenOS 16 — clean, minimal, and refreshingly free of bloat.

Camera capable, not camera obsessed

The primary shooter is a 50-megapixel OmniVision OV50D40 CMOS sensor capable of recording 4K video at 30fps. Video stabilisation is solid, and stills come out bright and well-balanced in colour. Even in low light or under uneven artificial lighting, the camera holds its own and produces respectable results.

That said, there are limitations worth noting. The secondary 2MP assistance camera adds little of practical value, and the absence of an ultra-wide lens is a genuine omission — one that will frustrate anyone who enjoys landscape or architectural photography. On the front, the 32MP selfie camera produces flattering skin tones and is also capable of 4K video, though stabilisation at that resolution leaves something to be desired.

The speaker arrangement follows a now-familiar pattern: a top-firing speaker pairs with a downward-firing unit at the bottom alongside the USB-C port, microphone, and dual nano-SIM tray. There is no microSD card slot, so opting for the higher storage variant from the outset is advisable.

The Nord CE6 carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings — comprehensive waterproofing that means you can rinse it under a tap or take it into the pool without a second thought. In an era where we rely on our phones in all weathers, this level of protection is genuinely reassuring.

Performance is handled by a dual-chipset setup: the Touch Reflex chip for responsiveness and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 for everything else. Day-to-day tasks are managed with ease, and casual gaming is perfectly feasible — though sustained, graphics-intensive play will expose the device’s limits. Expect competence, not fireworks.

The 8,000mAh battery is the Nord CE6’s most compelling selling point. It will comfortably last two full days of regular use, and a weekend away without a charger is a realistic prospect. In a market increasingly fixated on raw battery capacity, OnePlus has delivered something that genuinely earns its headline figure.

There are, however, broader trends pulling against this phone. eSIM support is absent, which will matter to an increasingly significant number of users. And while stellar battery life and robust waterproofing are welcome, they should not come at the expense of generous RAM and expandable storage — a balance the industry has not yet fully resolved.

The Nord CE6 is a thoughtfully assembled budget device. Its performance is dependable, its design is understated and practical, its camera is more than adequate, and its battery is exceptional. For the price, it asks you to accept a few compromises — but for most people, most of the time, those compromises will barely register.
