The 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Pumps Out 795 Horsepower

Posted on

When Ford launched the supercharged Mustang Dark Horse SC early this year with a Max Verstappen-cameo’d bang, the Blue Oval rolled out all sorts of facts, figures, and interesting tidbits about the new penultimate S650 ‘Stang. We learned all about what makes it tick under the skin, and plenty about the aerodynamic add-ons affixed to said dermis. But for all of that news, we were missing one big piece of information: just how powerful would this new Dark Horse be?

Well, as of Monday, now we know: Nearly eight hundred horses powerful.

The Mustang Dark Horse SC’s supercharged 5.2-liter V-8, Ford has revealed, puts out 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque, with each motor being built by hand by a single technician at Ford’s Dearborn Engine plant in the manner made famous by AMG. Those figures put the new ‘Stang at 35 ponies more potent and torques more twisty than its immediate predecessor, the S550-gen Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 that made 760 hp and 625 lb-ft from a previous version of the same powerplant.

Of course, Ford can’t have the new Dark Horse SC trample on its true alpha pony, the Mustang GTD. That ‘Ring-wrecking machine still manages to edge out a win in the power figure wars, packing 20 more horsepower and four more pound-feet than the newest, meanest Dark Horse. (And, presumably, the latest GTD Competition version will be a little more powerful still.) But the Dark Horse SC’s starting price of $108,485 is roughly one-third of its track-slaying sibling, so it kind of seems like the better buy.

Speaking of: Ford says order books for the Mustang Dark Horse SC are opening today, if you’re interested.
