The Love Story Begins: Before there was Thalapathy, there was a love story. SA Chandrasekhar — an aspiring film director who had rented a room in Shobha’s house — fell quietly, steadily in love with the talented playback singer next door. Two worlds, one roof, and a romance that the film industry itself would come to bless.

Sivaji Ganesan Plays Matchmaker: Chandrasekhar, then an assistant director on Pattakatthi Bhairavan, confided his heart to none other than the legendary Sivaji Ganesan. The great actor not only approved — his wife, Kamala Ammal, personally draped the mangalsutra around Shobha’s neck on the wedding day. Tamil cinema had given them its grandest blessing.

A Son Arrives, a Family Blooms: A year after their marriage, on June 22, 1974, Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar was born — blissfully unaware that one day millions would simply call him Thalapathy. The little boy grew up at the crossroads of two faiths, two worlds, and the boundless warmth of his mother’s voice. (X/@@kolly360)

The Wedding That Happened Twice: Here is where the story turns delightfully unique. When Vijay was around six years old, Shobha requested that the couple renew their vows — this time, in a church, honouring Chandrasekhar’s Christian faith. And so, they married again. Their son, barely old enough to tie his own shoelaces, stood witness to his parents’ second wedding.

The Boy In The Black-And-White Frame: The photographs from that church ceremony — grainy, black-and-white, and radiating quiet joy — are now circulating on social media. In them, little Vijay appears beside his parents, a small, solemn figure at a ceremony that was, in a sense, entirely his origin story.

Then And Now: That little boy at his parents’ wedding is today one of Tamil Nadu’s most powerful figures — a superstar turned political leader, whose party TVK has Tamil Nadu buzzing with speculation about a future Chief Minister. From a black-and-white frame in a church to the full colour of political ambition — the journey of the Chandrasekhar family continues to write history. (X/@kolly360)
