CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The second edition of the Charlotte Invitational gave tennis fans in the Queen City what could be a fleeting opportunity to see one of the all-time greats take the court.

45-year-old Venus Williams faced off with Madison Keys in an exhibition at Spectrum Center, providing a rare opportunity for fans in the Carolinas to see the 7-time Grand Slam winner up close and personal.

Williams was asked Thursday morning what her plans for the 2026 season are. She said she’s committed to playing in the Auckland Classic, which indicates she’s likely going to play in the Australian Open in January.

Beyond that, Williams couldn’t commit to the rest of her year.

Fans who came out to the Spectrum Center cherished the opportunity to see a tennis legend for maybe one of her final times on a court.
