The analysis further showed that people in Houston, San Antonio and Chicago were the most likely to reach out to their moms on the special occasion — in that order — and that people in Houston placed 3 million more calls and texts than anywhere else.

“Mother’s Day is one of the biggest days for texting and calling on the AT&T network each year,” Jenifer Robertson, executive vice president & GM, AT&T Mass Markets, said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

“With roughly three texts sent for every one call made to mom on Mother’s Day, we’re seeing how digital communication has become a meaningful part of how people celebrate and connect,” she continued.

“A text is immediate, it’s personal, and unlike a call, it’s something she can hold onto,” Robertson added.

Robertson went on to share that Gen Z, which is generally defined as those born between 1997 and 2012, are the most likely to connect with their moms daily throughout the year.
