Siri Camera Mode iOS 27 is shaping up to be one of Apple’s most significant AI bets yet.
Siri Camera Mode iOS 27 turns camera into AI search
Apple is reportedly developing a new Siri Camera Mode that will sit alongside existing Photo and Video options in the iPhone’s Camera app in iOS 27. Once enabled, the traditional shutter button is expected to change into an Apple Intelligence-style icon, letting users point the camera at objects and ask questions in real time.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this enhanced Siri Camera Mode builds on Apple’s current Visual Intelligence feature, which already taps services such as ChatGPT and Google reverse image search to analyse scenes and images. Apple is now said to be moving that capability directly into the Camera app to make AI tools more prominent and easier to discover.
Siri Camera Mode iOS 27: From posters to nutrition labels
Siri Camera Mode in iOS 27 is expected to recognise everyday items such as posters, menus and product packaging and then offer context-aware actions. Pointing the camera at an event poster could trigger a prompt to create a calendar entry, while scanning a restaurant menu might surface online reviews and additional details.
Reports also suggest more practical uses, including scanning food packaging to extract nutritional information and reading contact details directly from business cards, avoiding manual typing. Gurman has said the system will be able to pull out data such as nutrition labels and contact info, relying on cloud AI tools for more complex queries.
Siri Camera Mode iOS 27: Part of a wider Siri and AI push
The new Siri Camera Mode in iOS 27 is described as just one part of a broader AI overhaul that will also bring a more conversational Siri with deeper control over system functions, and potentially a standalone Siri app. Apple is also working on AI-focused wearables, including smart glasses, a pendant and AirPods with cameras that feed visual context into Siri, underlining its long-term push into real-time visual understanding.
Apple has not confirmed any of these features, but they are widely expected to be detailed at WWDC 2026, which runs from 8 to 12 June at Apple Park, with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 among the headline announcements. If the leaks prove accurate, Siri Camera Mode iOS 27 could mark a decisive shift in how iPhone users search, discover and act on information, using the camera as the front door to Apple’s next generation of AI.
