Shakhtar Donetsk have sent a stark financial warning to Chelsea, admitting they stand to lose a staggering £26 million if Mykhailo Mudryk continues to struggle for game time.

Mykhailo Mudryk’s move from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea in January 2023 remains one of the most talked-about transfers in Premier League history for all the wrong reasons.

In an interview with ESPN, Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Serhii Palkin believes that Mudryk’s ban will be resolved some time soon and the results will be positive.

“We have €30 million [of] bonuses in his contract. And if he is not playing, if Chelsea [are] not reaching results, we are losing €30m. That’s a big financial impact for us.

“Therefore, everybody believes that this story will finish as soon as possible with positive results and Mudryk will return to playing. Otherwise, we will be in a position to lose €30m (£26m).”

Mykhailo Mudryk clauses at Chelsea

Mykhailo Mudryk’s Chelsea contract is heavily incentivised for Shakhtar Donetsk, so you can understand why they’re desperate for him to return.
