Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to a head-turning on-screen transformation, whether she’s rocking her Black Widow-era chocolate curls or touting XXL extensions for The Exorcist reboot. But the Jurassic World Rebirth actress had fans doing a double take with her boldest change-up yet: a curly chop straight out of the 1980s.

In exclusive Vanity Fair preview photos from her upcoming film Paper Tiger, Johansson looks like a completely different person as she sports cropped honey blonde ringlets that are arranged in pin curl-style flourishes around her crown and forehead. The Marvel star, who plays Hester Pearl opposite Miles Teller and Adam Driver, can be seen wearing a pair of wire-rimmed glasses as she nestles her face into a man’s chest in an exclusive photo.

In the follow-up to the 2022 Armageddon Time follows Teller and Driver’s characters, two brothers who become dangerously enmeshed in the Russian mafia in the late ‘80s. Hinting at her character arc, Johansson also appears in a second photo, showing off her buttery blonde curls from behind. She holds hands with Driver’s character and smiles at the group, hinting at happier times for the family.

Johansson first unveiled her new curly wig while filming on-set last summer in New York. In photos taken in early June, the Lost in Translation alum perfected her ‘80s power mom transformation with her bouncy ringlets, a pair of large gold-rimmed glasses, and a taupe blazer jacket with padded shoulders.

Nodding to the era’s style sense, Johansson complemented her look with olive green high-waisted slacks cinched at the waist with a dark brown leather belt and polarizing dark brown leather peep-toe pumps. Slinging a woven leather bag over one shoulder, the star accessorized with chunky gold rectangular earrings and a multi-strand gold necklace. In another scene, Johansson could be seen standing on the steps of a brick home while wearing a baby blue short-sleeved polo shirt and dark taupe dress pants.
