There’s drama on the home front for Ryan Gosling, Globe has learned.
While the actor is itching to get back to work following his recent box office success, a source says longtime partner Eva Mendes prefers him to focus on family this summer.
Over the last few years, the Skura Style entrepreneur, 52, has “sacrificed” chunks of the season for Gosling, explains the source, relocating their daughters, Esmeralda, 11, and Amada, 10, abroad while he filmed hits like 2023’s Barbie and 2026’s Project Hail Mary.
The highly-anticipated Star Wars: Starfighter, which is due out in 2027, also required time overseas last August.
“Eva is not out of bounds for wanting a more normal summer this year, but the problem is Ryan’s more in demand than ever,” the source tells Globe. “There are some very tantalizing offers he’s having to pass up in order to stay home with Eva and their kids. It’s an awkward situation, especially for somebody as ambitious as Ryan is.”

According to Box Office Mojo, current release Project Hail Mary — which Gosling, 45, also produced — has earned $677 million worldwide and counting.
“There are a million things he still wants to do with his career,” adds the source. “But Eva believes everything, including incredible pay days, should take a backseat to family.”
In 2023, Gosling told GQ that he knew he wanted to have children with Mendes after the two played coparents in 2012’s The Place Beyond the Pines.
“Ryan loves being a dad. The issue is that he’s an inherently restless person,” the source says. “It puts him in a tricky position with Eva, who would like him at home, fully engaged in family life.”
